DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

In Australia on average

1 woman is killed every week by a current or former partner.

What is Family and Domestic Violence?

Family and domestic violence is ANY behaviour which results in physical, sexual and/or psychological damage, forced social isolation, economic deprivation, or behaviour which causes the victim to live in fear.

Fundamentally, it is about the use of violence and other forms of abuse to control someone within an intimate or familial relationship. Family and domestic violence occurs in all sectors of the community.

The combined health, administration and social welfare costs of violence against women have been estimated to be $21.7 billion a year, with projections suggesting that if no further action is taken to prevent violence against women, costs will accumulate to $323.4 billion over a thirty year period from 2014-15 to 2044-45*.
